I earned my PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2006. I teach all levels of Portuguese language and culture courses and co-coordinate the Portuguese Program. I also teach an Integrative Arts and Humanities course in English (IAH 207 - "Literature, Cultures, and Identities") on Brazilian History, Literature, and Cinema related to the Brazilian military dictatorship (1964-1985). My articles have appeared in journals in the areas of Luso-Brazilian and Latin American Studies such asLuso-Brazilian ReviewEllipsisHispanófila, and Chasqui. I have also published book chapters, translations, book reviews, encyclopedia entries, interviews, and annotated bibliographies. My first and only book, The Triumph of Brazilian Modernism, was published by the University of North Carolina Press in 2013.
