Originally wanting to be a chef when he was in high school, Garret began taking French and Spanish courses so that he would have the opportunity to study the cuisine and cooking techniques of other cultures. It was high school teachers that originally ignited his passion for the language and cultures themselves, and helped shape his decision to pursue the teaching of language. His professors in college further helped to confirm this path.
Garret graduated from Grand Valley State University with a B.A. in both Spanish and French with a linguistics emphasis. He studied abroad in Aix-en-Provence France and has traveled to many European countries as well as Mexico. His concentration is on linguistics and second language acquisition and he believes learning another language can help anyone in any field. He is also a member of the national French honor society - Pi Delta Phi.
In his spare time, Garret still loves cooking, fitness, singing, and spending time doing outdoor activities and going to the beach! His favorite TV show is Parks and Recreation and his favorite singer is Lady Gaga.
